> A LITTLE STORY <
Samaná is one of the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic and is located in the northeast of the country, completely occupying the Samana Peninsula. Its capital is the city of Santa Barbara de Samaná de Samaná, usually called only Samaná. It was created on June 4, 1867, as Maritime District. The constitution of 1907 – effective in 1908 – makes it a province by eliminating the category of Maritime District.
The territory of the province was visited by Christopher Columbus in January 1493, during his first trip to the Americas. At that time, Samaná was occupied by ciguayos settlers and the first hostile encounter between Europeans and natives occurred.
> TOUR DESCRIPTION <
Our tour begins with a trip in comfortable buses passing through the tropical and colorful landscapes of the Dominican Republic from Bayahibe in the North direction.
Upon reaching the Samana Peninsula, our adventure really begins. What a thrill! There, our safari trucks are waiting for us, in them we will make our trip to the mountains to visit a typical Dominican Ranch, where we will have the opportunity to learn about local agriculture, in addition to tasting the exquisite fresh and natural products, such as seasonal fruits that Mother Nature offers us. We continue!
We continue to explore the true rainforest during a fun and safe horse ride, along the Arroyo Chico River. The road will take us to the picturesque Cascada del Limón, where we can observe an impressive 50-meter freshwater fall in the middle of the jungle, there we can bathe in its crystalline waters and take stunning photos.
Finally, we can calm our appetite with a tasty Caribbean lunch in our exclusive restaurant El Timón in the city of Samaná, while we will be enjoying the panoramic view of the bay with its emblematic Napoleonic bridge. Spectacular!
A city tour of the picturesque city of Santa Barbara de Samaná will be offered before or after lunch. This small coastal center preserves its fishing traditions, but it is also an ecotourism destination thanks to the annual visit of 1,500 humpback whales in its bay.
At this stage, we will board our comfortable and safe boats in the direction of the famous Bacardi Island (Cayo Levantado). Here, we can live the island experience by the hand of a good drink on its white sand beach, and turquoise blue waters will make us feel in an authentic earthly paradise.
We finish our excursion returning to our starting point, where the buses that will take us back to the hotels will be waiting for us.
